KATHMANDU: The constituent assembly (CA) members belonging to the CPN-UML have intensified signature campaign demanding to make directly elected executive as the head of the government in the new constitution.
They have argued that the views of the top leaders to share executive power between the directed elected president and the parliament-elected prime minister would create problems.
In spite of the party for the directly elected prime and the ceremonial president, the mixed model of sharing executive power between the prime minister and president was less effective so the consensus could rather be forged on the party stand of the UCPN-Maoist, and of the Nepali Congress.
The Nepali Congress has the stand that prime minister needs to be elected from the parliament with ceremonial president while the Maoist party is for directly elected president as chief executive.
The CA members are to submit signature to the party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal before the meeting of the party's central committee Friday
More than 50 CA members have signed for the campaign.
