KATHMANDU: Umeed Shrestha of Kumari Bank, Pulkit Bhimsaria of G’Five Mobile, Ranjitshwor Malla of Bank of Kathmandu (BoK) and Abhishek Dhwoj Rana of Nepal Investment Bank Limited (NIBL) advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals of the Seagram’s Royal Stag first Corporate Ping Pong Tournament here at the National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur today.
Umeed defeated Prabhat Dip Khatri of DHL, Abhevdaya Shrestha of E24 Television and Keshav Maharjan of Radisson Hotel to finish Group ‘C’ winner, while Pulkit saw off Mahendra Joshi of Global, Trishakti Rana of Surya Nepal and Sandesh Katuwal of The Himalayan Times to make it to the last four from Group ‘B’.
Ranjitshwor won his all three league round matches in the Group ‘D’. After defeating Bhushan Tandukar of Commerz and Trust Bank Nepal (CTBN), Ranjitshwor dispatched Dipankar Shakya of Verisk Information Technology and Saroj Shrestha of NIC Bank. Meanwhile, Abhishek beat Rohit Singh of Manakamana Development Bank and Ankit Chhetry of Ncell to advance from Group ‘A’.
Dharti Shrestha of NIBL and Elina Thapa of Ncell from Group ‘A’ and Manisha Shah of Global and Nilu Sthapit of CNT from Group ‘B’ made it to the last four in women’s singles section. Dharti overcame Sajina Karki of The Himalayan Times, Mathisha Maskey of NIC, Elina and Brijika Bantawa Rai of Verisk. Except for the loss against Dharti, Elina registered wins over other players of the group to advance as the runner-up. Manisha cruised past Himani Shah of BoK, Indira Ghimire of Kumari, Tshering Sherpa of DHL and Nilu.
Radisson duo of Santosh/Keshav got better of the CTBN pair of Bhushan/Jay Dev, NIBL pair of Bikash and Abhishek beat Ranjit/Dinesh of BoK, Kushal/Pulkit of G’Five outplayed Bishal/Nishal of Global and Kumari duo of Umeed/Chiran saw off Surya Nepal duo Abhishek/Trishakti to make it to the doubles semi-finals. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled for Saturday.
