ITAHARI: Owing to the lack of awareness about nutriti-on, a large number of children whose families displaced by the Koshi flood four years ago, are suffering from malnutrition.
Of the three villages worst affected by the flood –– Paschim Kausha, Hari-pur and Shreepur, children in Musahar Village, Shreepur, have been affected the most, health workers say.
Thousands of families had been displaced after the swollen Koshi River breached its eastern embankment at Paschim Kusaha and swept away the human settlement.
“Their parents are not aware of nutrition and sanitation. As a result, almost every child is suffering from malnutrition,” said the health workers. “Although the children’s condition is getting worse by the day, neither the DHO nor any other concerned body has bothered to address the problem.”
Sunsari DPH Office chi-ef Shreeram Prasad Saha said his office was preparing to launch an awareness campaign in the malnutrition-hit villages.
