KATHMANDU: A meeting of the three major political parties--the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress (NC) and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) -- decided informally to carve out 14 states during the process of state restructuring.
In the meeting which took place at Baluwatar on Saturday morning, NC also demonstrated its flexibility to go for 14 federal states. But as UML leaders were busy in the internal parleys, they couldn't seal the deal, said Terai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur.
If we believe what Thakur said, it seems as if NC has budged from its earlier stance of no more than eight provinces.
The meeting of the four major political forces including the CPN-UML will take the formal decision on the number and basis of the state restructuring, added Thakur while talking to journos after the meeting.
The meeting of the four major political parties will take place after 1:30 pm, Thakur informed.
