KATHMANDU: Western Region duo of Manju Gurung and Aruna Shahi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Pentagon second Women’s National Beach Volleyball Championship today.
The duo recorded double victories to finish as Group ‘D’ winners with 21-12, 21-3 victory against Geeta Dangi and Anupama Malla of Mid-Western and 21-14, 21-3 win over Parbati Aryal/Indira Kathayat of Nepal Police Club (NPC).
Sushila Thapa and Kopila Upreti of NPC and Nepal APF pair of Binita Budhathoki and Nebika Chaudhary recorded double wins on the inaugural day. The NPC duo dispatched Binita Thapa and Saraswoti Nepali of Mid-Western 21-10, 21-14 and thrashed Eastern team of Mitra Rai and Purna Rai 21-8, 21-3.
The APF team started the tournament with a 21-11, 15-21, 15-11 victory over Central Region team of Ramila Tandukar and Kamala Pun before beating the Far-Western team of Jaya Laxmi and Bhawani Chaudhary 21-11, 21-5. Another APF team of Nima Shrestha and Jyoti Chaudhary dispatched Central pair of Manisha Tamang and Kripa Adhikari 21-11, 21-12.
Likewise, Eastern Region pair of Lilima Angdambe and Puja Dhimal rallied for a 22-24, 24-22, 16-14 victory over Jaya Laxmi and Bhawani. Mid-Western’s Binita and Saraswoti defeated the Western team of Khushi Khadka and Manati Ale in straight sets of 21-13, 21-19.
