DHARAN: Tension ran high in Dharan for the whole day today after cadres of Youth Federation Nepal, sister wing of the CPN-UML, vandalised an autorickshaw for defying its bandh.

The YFN cadres, who had enforced a bandh in the city this morning as per their nation-wide programme, vandalised an auto-rickshaw which had come out on the road soon after the end of the today’s bandh programme, triggering the irate autorickshaw drivers to shut all the transportation and bazaar in protest against the YFN cadres’ vandalism.

In retaliation, the YFN cadres again vandalised five more autorickshaws which led to worsening the tension as the angered auto-rickshaw workers took to the street in protest with different home-made weapons.

Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel were deployed at the Bhanuchowk, College Road and Chhata Chowk in order to avert any untoward incidents.

Later, tension subsided at about 4 pm following talks among between the two sides at the Area Police Office of Dharan.

YFN chairperson Himal Limbu said they had resorted to vandalism after autorickshaw workers had challenged their bandh programme.
