Limbuwan outfit hinders EC campaign

DHARAN: Hostile response to the

Election Commission’s

voter list updation initiatives continued today with cadres of the Federal Limbuwan State Council intervening in the updation process in Dharan.

A group under Bhim Idhingo, the council’s Sunsari secretary, obstructed the exercise in Ekatamarga

and Birendra chowk, and barred EC staffers from collecting the voters’ names. The group also disrupted the campaign meant to make all concerned aware of the need to take part in the EC initiatives.

The Limbuwan cadres took all EC materials at

Dharan ward no 6.

Secretary Idhingo said they had kept the materials at the local Limbuwan

office.

‘’We have urged EC staffers not to update the electoral roll,’’ Idhingo said, warning to retaliate if the

EC pays no heed to their call, while the council chairman, Kumar Lingden, claimed that the commission’s updation initiatives are targeted against the

ethnic people.

Lingden said his party had urged council cadres

to stop the EC drive in

nine districts east of the Arun river.

The irony is that the police administration has no knowledge of all these disruptions. SP at the Area Police Office Dharan Umashankar Panjiyar expressed ignorance about the disruption in the EC initiatives, even as Ramesh Yadav, an EC staffer, confirmed that the field staffers could not update the electoral roll due to obstruction from Limbuwan activists.
