2 injured in Sundhara Gulab Restaurant fire

KATHMANDU: At least two persons sustained injuries after a fire broke out at a restaurant near Bag Durbar in Sundhara, Kathmandu on Wednesday evening, police said.

Speaking to THT Online over the phone police official at the Metropolitan Police Circle Bishalbazaar said Kalpana Magar (30) permanent resident of Udayapur and Ajaya Tharu of Kailali district sustained injuries in the incident.

He further said both the injured were rushed to nearby Bir Hospital for treatment. However, they were referred to Tinkune-based Kantipur hospital for further treatment.

According to police Magar is yet to regain consciousness whereas Tharu is in stable condition. "No human casualty is reported so far. At least four to five fire engines have been used to contain the fire."

Magar and Tharu worked as sweeper and security guard respectively in the restaurant, according to police.

The fire started at the basement of the building in which Gulab vegetarian restaurant is situated and spread to the ground floor.

"It is being said that a malfunction in the generator sparked the fire," THT reporter Sagrica Rai said. "As many as four firefighting engines reached the spot to douse the fire."

Meanwhile, police are yet to estimate damage caused by the fire.
