Kathmandu, May 26

As many as 44 people, who developed food poisoning-related complications after having Sraddha prasad in Dhading, are receiving treatment in Teku-based Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital.

According to Dr Ramesh Kumar Kharel, director at the hospital, 10 of the patients were discharged from the hospital after treatment today.

Dr Laxmi Shrestha, gastro ward in-charge at the hospital, said the ward had only 40 beds. Due to lack of beds nine beds are being used by two or more patients, while four patients are receiving treatment on the floor. “All members of more than five families were admitted to the hospital after food poisoning.”

Dr Kharel said they were yet to learn about the cause of food poisoning. “We cannot say the cause of poisoning until we get stool test results.” He informed that 10 patients, who were out of danger, were discharged from the hospital, while the rest have been kept under close observation.

He said patients of food poisoning might develop complications related to kidney. “Most of the patients are recovering fast. They need good rest.”
