Acting Chief Justice Karki not barred from hearing case against CIAA chief

Kathmandu, June 12

A single bench of Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki today issued an order, saying she was not barred by the law from hearing the case against chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lok Man Singh Karki.

The acting CJ passed the order in a contempt of court case filed against the CIAA chief.

According to SC Spokesperson Nahakul Subedi, CIAA chief’s lawyer had filed a petition arguing that Acting CJ Karki was barred by Section 30 of the Court Proceedings chapter of Muluki Ain (General Code) from hearing the case against CIAA Chief Karki as both were close relatives.

Acting CJ Karki passed the order saying she did not share any kind of kinship with CIAA chief Karki and hence she was allowed by the law to hear the case against him.

A contempt of court case was filed against the CIAA chief by Shanta Dixit, wife of Chairperson of Sajha Yatayat Kanak Mani Dixit, claiming that the recent arrest of her husband was against an order passed by the SC.
