Action sought against 19,000 govt staffers

Kathmandu, February 18

National Vigilance Centre has recommended action against 19,134 government employees, who did not furnish their property details within the given deadline last fiscal.

NVC Spokesperson Bishnu Raj Lamichhane said a formal letter in this connection was sent to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority recommending action to the government staffers.

Of the total 19,134 government employees, who did not furnish property details, 4,525 are civil servants, 11,455 are teachers, 1,445 army personnel, 113 police and 1,596 others.

As per the Prevention of Corruption Act-2002, any person who joins public office has to furnish property details within 60 days from the date of joining such office. Likewise, government staffers have to submit property details within 60 days from the date of completion of each fiscal.

If a government staffer does not submit property detailsĀ  within the given deadline, s/he is liable to a fine of Rs 5,000 and the concerned body or official may launch investigation into his/her property.
