Alleged chain snatcher nabbed from Naya Baneshwor

KATHMANDU: A person was reportedly arrested red handed while running away after snatching a necklace off a pedestrian from Bagmati Bridge in Shantinagar of KMC-31 on Friday.

According to police, the arrestee has been identified as Deepak Hamal (33) of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-4 in Kailali district, currently residing in Thimi of  Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Bhaktapur district.

A team from Naya Baneshwor-based Metropolitan Police Circle nabbed Hamal while he was running away after he snatched the gold necklace weighing around one and half tola from the neck of Roshani Awasthi (31), of Hasanpur in Kailali district , currently residing in Subhidhanagar of Kathmandu district, informed police.

Awasthi was walking on the road in Shantinagar when Hamal disabled her by throwing chilli powder into her eyes, and ran away with her necklace, informed police.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the case is underway, said police.
