Kathmandu, October 29

Assistant Sub-inspector Bichitra Thapa Magar, who was the in-charge of Maipi temporary police beat, has been suspended for pocketing the money seized from a gambling parlour in Maipi in police raid a week  ago.

Police said Magar was suspended for investigation. The Metropolitan Police Range suspended Magar on the basis of the recommendation made by Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office at Rani Pokhari.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Kumar Thapa at MPR,  the suspended ASI has been accused of pocketing Rs 400,000 seized from the gambling parlour.

The ASI led police team had raided a private residence in Maipi a week ago. The people arrested from the gambling parlour said police had confiscated Rs 1.5 million, but returned only Rs 1.1 million to them. None of the gamblers had been arrested from the gambling site.

According to police, Ritesh Lama and Dinesh Parajuli confessed to police that they were gambling when ASI Magar-led police team raided the house. But ASI Magar has denied the charges and said that his team had not raided any gambling parlour.
