Kathmandu, April 22

An emergency meeting of the executive body of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality held today condemned the physical assault on Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha yesterday evening.

Mayor Shrestha was assaulted by two persons at around 6:00pm in the municipality yesterday evening. He has sustained injuries to legs and hands after two unidentified person hit him with iron rods. The attackers also vandalised Mayor Shrestha’s vehicle, but the latter off to a nearby medical store before the attackers inflicted him further injury.

Mayor Shrestha is undergoing treatment at Nepal-Korea Friendship Hospital. Family members said Shrestha was recovering.

DSP Sajjan Maharjan at Metropolitan Police Circle, Thimi said, “We have launched investigation into the incident. The attackers will be arrested soon.”
