Bandh goes unnoticed

Kathmandu, August 14

The general strike called by the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal had little impact on normal life in Kathmandu valley today as denizens defied the bandh amid bomb threat.

The party had called for a bandh ‘to protest the recent arrest of its central level leaders, including Khadga Bahadur Bishwakara, on criminal charges’.

The general public and transport entrepreneurs continued with their daily activities. Traffic police said nearly 25 per cent of vehicles stayed off the road, fearing vandalism. However, long route buses did not leave or enter the valley.  Police had made special security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
