Bhutanese queen visits Buddha’s birthplace

Her Majesty Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the queen of the Kingdom of Bhutan, today visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

According to Lumbini Development Fund member Rajesh Gyawali, the queen was accompanied by her Royal Highness Ashi Eeupheima Choden Wangchuck. Wangchuck arrived in Lumbini yesterday evening itself. “She visited Mayadevi temple, Puskarani pond and Ashok pillar,” said the LDF information officer Rajan Basnet.

“The officials at LDF also showed her the artefacts excavated during the Tilaurakot excavation and apprised her of the progress in the research into the artefacts found,” said archaeology officer Himal Upreti.

Kapilvastu Municipality Mayor Kiran Singh, LDF member Gyawali and locals welcomed the queen at Nigrodharam. The queen is accompanied by a nine-member team.

Local police administration managed tight security considering the security concern of the visiting team.
