Gachhadar's party to withdraw support extended to govt

KATHMANDU: The Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic led by Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar said it would withdraw the support extended to the incumbent government if its one-week ultimatum was not heeded.

A meeting of the party's Central Work Executive Committee made a decision to this effect on Wednesday, the MJF-D leader Ram Janam Chaudhary told THT Online over phone.

"We have extended the ultimatum from the date of yesterday," he said, "If our demands are not met, we cannot continue supporting the government."

The party has demanded that the government should assure endorsement of the Constitution amendment bill with the revision of provincial boundaries, compensation to Tharu people whose houses were burned during the violent Tikapur incident in August 2015 and release of protesters arrested during various movements in Madhes and Tharuhat regions.

Earlier, it was reported that ruling Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre were trying to induct Gachhadar also in the jumbo Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Chaudhary refuted media reports that the party was mulling over the merger with the Nepali Congress.
