Bolivian woman held for cocaine smuggling from Thamel hotel

KATHMANDU: Police said they recently arrested a Bolivian woman from a Thamel-based hotel for her alleged involvement in an international cocaine smuggling racket.

The 21-year-old Teodovich Gonzales Paole (Passport number: A 714432) was arrested from Kathmandu City Hotel of Thamel in the afternoon of last Wednesday, August 24, according to the Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police.

Earlier, an Indian woman, Rose Kashung (41), who was arrested in possession of 3.125 kg cocaine from Nepal-India border point in Sunauli of Rupandehi district, had told Indian police that she received the contraband from an unidentified person living at the hotel in Kathmandu.

She was arrested on August 16 and had told police that she was returning from Kathmandu.

The Indian Police's Narcotics Control Bureau had written to the NCB here, requesting cooperation to search the suspect.

The Nepal NCB then had swung into the action.

Police said the Bolivian woman had arrived Nepal from Brazil via Ethiopia and Indian on the day the Indian woman was arrested.

Police are looking into the case.

Earlier, on August 9 and 10, police had arrested two foreign women - a Thai and a Bolivian - from Kathmandu charge of cocaine smuggling to and from Kathmandu.

Police had claimed they were drug mules hired by international drug smuggling rackets.

The Bolivian, who was arrested then, was also said to have arrived in Kathmandu via Sao Paulo of Brazil, Adis Ababa of Ethiopia and New Delhi of India.
