Big 3 register joint amendment proposal on Revised Draft, MJF-D "pulling out" of constitution process

KATHMANDU: Three major parties -- Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist -- on Saturday evening jointly registered an amendment proposal on the Revised Draft of Nepal's Constitution 2015 at the Constituent Assembly.

It has been learned that the amendment proposal has envisaged a federal commission to resolve the issues related to the demarcation of boundaries of purported federal units.

Earlier, the four major parties including Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic had held a meeting to discuss the amendment proposal.

Meanwhile, the fourth largest party MJF-D has announced to pull out of the constitution-drafting process.

After the four-party meeting, the Federal Democratic Alliance (FDA), led by MJF-D Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, had held a separate meeting.

After the meeting, MJF-D General Secretary Ram Janam Chaudhary told media that his party as well as two constituents of the FDA -- Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Republican and National Madhes Socialist Party -- would not take part in the process.

The alliance has argued that the big three parties did not incorporate voices of Tharu people in the amendment proposal.

The three major parties have backtracked from the 16-point agreement signed on June 8, it added.
