CIAA fails to adequately address public grievances

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has addressed the least number of  public complaints lodged against it at Hello Sarkar.

Of the total 123 complaints lodged by the public against the anti-graft body at Hello Sarkar, the CIAA has addressed only 42 complaints which stand at 34.15 per cent, according to Hello Sarkar programme chief Pradyumna Prasad Upadhyay.

However, the Ministry of Livestock Development has addressed cent per cent complaints filed by general public at Hello Sarkar programme. Upadhyay said that out of 160 complaints related to livestock health insurance and animal husbandry, the Ministry addressed all the complaints.

Similarly, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has responded to 99.83 per cent complaints, the Higher Education Council 98.58 per cent, Nepal Telecommunications Company 98.41 per cent and the Tribhuvan University has addressed 97.82 percent.

Since the Hello Sarkar programme began on November 5, 2011,  a total of 56,759 complaints have been settled while 7,491 are left to be addressed, said Upadhyay, adding  81.76 per cent complaints have been addressed so far.

Public complaints received by the Hello Sarkar are categorised into high priorities, priorities and general groups as per their nature and addressed accordingly.

According to Upadhyay, it is prodding up the respective ministries and bodies concerned to address the remaining grievances.
