Kathmandu, August 25

The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting today decided to hold its Maha Samiti meeting from November 21 to 25 in Kathmandu.

The meeting also formed some crucial committees to make preparations for the Maha Samiti meeting.

The CWC formed Principal Organising Committee led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, according to the party’s Assistant General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat.  Mahat will lead the Finance Committee, while party Vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi will head the Political Committee. The NC had formed Statue Drafting Committee led by party’s General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khada on Friday.

Mahat said today’s CWC meeting decided to include two more NC district presidents in the Statute Drafting Committee, taking the total number of members in the committee to 13.  Other  members of the committee include  Minendra Rijal, Farmullah Mansoor, Man Bahadur Bishwakarma, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay ‘Dina’, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Nabindra Raj Joshi, Sita Gurung, PradipPaudel and Ramesh Lekhak.

The CWC meeting today also criticised the government, saying it had failed to fulfil its duties. The meeting also demanded that the government investigate the rape and murder of a minor in Kanchanpur district and punish the criminal. Mahat said the meeting demanded that the government refrain from imposing unreasonable taxes on the public.  “We are also going to tell local governments not to impose unreasonable taxes on the public,” Mahat added.

The committee will draft amendments to be made to the party statute for restructuring the party organisation in line with the new federal set-up and propose revisions at the party’s central working committee. The CWC will then present the amendments at the Maha Samiti meeting.
