Damaged sewer lines in Valley to be repaired

Kathmandu, November 23

A meeting of stakeholder agencies held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today decided to immediately repair damaged sewer lines in various places of Kathmandu Valley.

The meeting presided over by Secretary Mahendraman Gurung discussed ways to resolve the problem. Dilapidated and damaged sewer lines, mainly in Maithighar, Ratopul, Naxal, Ratna Park and Kamalpokhari, are causing inconvenience to the traffic and pedestrians, and have also increased the risk of accidents.

According to a press release issued by the OPMCM, the government will also conduct GIS mapping of drinking water pipelines and sewer lines existing across the country. Similarly, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited will set up a hotline to receive complaints from users.

“The government has also decided to replace old utility lines with new ones and fix problems detected in such facilities besides black-topping the roads where new utility lines have been laid to ease traffic mobility,” stated the release.

Representatives from the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Project Implementation Directorate of KUKL and OPMCM had attended the meeting.
