Deuba to maintain silence on HoR dissolution case

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 10

President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has said it was inappropriate to speak about the case of House of Representatives dissolution as it was under consideration at the Supreme Court.

At a programme organised by Democratic Thoughts Society to release a book on Surya Prasad Upadhyay today, Deuba said the NC would accept the court’s verdict.

Stating that the NC has always respected the independence of the judiciary, he said the NC was waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the HoR dissolution.

NC President Deuba expressed the view that it was not a right move to take to the street as the case was under the consideration of the court. He further said the NC would go for election if the SC gave its verdict accordingly. Stating that Surya Prasad Upadhyay was one of the four founding leaders of the NC, Deuba said Surya Prasad was a highly appreciated politicians among NC leaders and cadres.

Similarly, NC senior leader Ramchandra Paudel said the constitution had no provision to dissolve the HoR and NC should go for protest demanding reinstatement of the HoR. Paudel opined that there was no alternative to the NC for raising the voice strongly in favour of HoR reinstatement. Upadhyay had made great contributions to the party and they could not be undermined, he added.

Likewise, NC General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala said Upadhyay worked to keep the party alive while NC central committee member Arjun Narsingh KC urged President Deuba to keep Upadhyay’s photo at the party’s central office and to celebrate Prithvi Jayanti.
