Pratappur Temple demolished citing possible risk to visitors

KATHMANDU: The Department of Archaeology (DoA) has demolished the Pratappur Temple citing it a posed risk to the devotees and tourists visiting the site.

According to the Department's Engineering Section Chief Sampat Ghimire, the Temple had to be demolished as it could give way anytime and injure the visitors.

He added that the Temple would be rebuilt in its old structure and would be quake-resilient.

The Temple, located in the premises of Swayambhunath Stupa, had developed various cracks in the massive earthquake of 2015 and its subsequent aftershocks.

The Swayambhunath is one of the monuments enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The DOA and the Federation of Swayambhu Management and Conservation are currently conducting a research for the renovation of other ancient monuments and stupas that were damaged during the quake, informed Federation's General Secretary Mahendra Ratna Bajracharya.
