Don’t halt traffic during movement of VIPs, SC tells govt

The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice to the government on why ordinary citizens are being prevented from walking or driving on the road during the movement of the president and other VIPs.

In response to a writ petition filed by Advocate Gyaneshwar Koirala, a single bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC told the government to furnish a written clarification within 15 days. The bench also told the government to state which laws mandated it to vacate the roads for  VIPs movement.

Advocate Koirala has argued in his writ petition that obstructing vehicular traffic during the movement of VIPs violated citizen’s right to movement. The petitioner has named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs and Nepal Police as defendants.
