DPM Mainali stresses implementation of laws to mitigate violence against women

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare CP Mainali has stressed on the effective implementation of constitutional provisions aiming to mitigate the violence against women.

Inaugurating the 16-day activism campaign against gender-based violence here today, Minister Mainali argued that the violence against women should be recognised as a form of social violence.

Furthermore he urged the stakeholders to spearhead programmes that would defy the gender-based discriminatory social practices.

Also speaking at the programme, Acting Chairperson of the National Women Commission, Manu Humagain, shared that the Commission had been undertaking various programmes with an objective to spread awareness on violence against women.

Similarly, President of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Shesh Ghale said that the Association had been actively working against violence against women.

He was of the opinion that one should let charity begin from home when it comes to mitigating the violence against women.

On the occasion, a rally was organised from Bhrikutimandap which converged into a corner meeting in Basantapur after it went through Bhadrakali, Sahid Gate and New Road.

The theme for this year's campaign says “From peace in the home to peace in the world: Make education safe for all.”

More than 40 women rights organisations have joined the campaign.
