Efforts on to address Tharu's demands: UCPN-M Chair Dahal

KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that he is making efforts to address the demands put forth by the Tharu community.

He made the statement during a meeting held with the Tharu lawmakers and leaders at his residence in Lazimpat on Tuesday.

Dahal said that the problem would be resolved after holding discussions with Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

Lawmaker Santa Kumar Tharu, who participated in the meeting, said they urged Dahal to address their demands before the Prime Minister leaves for New York to attend the UN General Assembly.

On the occasion, leader Dahal assured the Tharu leaders that initiatives would be taken to address the demands put forth by the Tharu Struggle Committee by today evening.

Dahal opined that the political issues should be resolved by any means in the context of the promulgation of the new constitution.

“We too are eager to resolve the deadlock. We have reached a conclusion that the problems should not linger any more,” Tharu said.
