EC asks government to announce public holiday on Nov 26, Dec 7

The Election Commission has urged the government to announce public holiday on November 26 and December 7 for the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections.

The EC asked the government to announce public holiday for the first phase of parliamentary and provincial elections on November 26 in 32 districts, and on December 7 in remaining 45 districts for the second phase of parliamentary and provincial polls.

EC Spokesperson Nabaraj Dhakal said the EC made the request to the home ministry.

A press release issued by the EC stated that the EC also urged the government to close educational institutions for four days beginning November 23 in the districts where the first phase of polls are being held as well as from December 4 in the remaining districts.

Meanwhile, the EC stated that there was no special pass system for mediapersons for news collection.
