Essential services strike banned

Kathmandu, April 24

The Cabinet today decided to ban strikes in essential services sector.

The Cabinet last week had decided that any institution related to public transport sector could not be registered or renewed at district administration offices. The decision to end transport syndicate has worried transporters. They have announced a series of strikes to protest the government’s move.

The Cabinet also decided to form a high-level facilitation committee under the coordination of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari for the construction of international airport at Nijgadh, Bara.Similarly, the government will provide a financial grant of Rs 100 million to Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology for import of technology to produce eye lenses.

The Cabinet also approved the directive regulating foreign visits of government officials and recommended that the bills related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, National Assembly member election, and medical education be presented to the president.

It also decided to accept a grant assistance of Rs 6.860 billion for the second phase of Ranijamara-Kulariya irrigation project from the World Bank.
