KATHMANDU: Sonam Wangyal Ruit — father of Dr Sanduk Ruit, Chairperson of the Barbara Foundation and Medical Director of Tilganga Eye Hospital — passed away on Thursday morning. He was 92 years old.

Ruit was born in Olanchunggola, Taplejung.

His last rites were performed in Teku Doban on Sunday Morning as per Buddhist Lama rites.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

His son Dr Sanduk Ruit was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award (Philippines) and Padma Shri (India) for his services in eye care in Nepal and surrounding countries.
