FNJ flays journalists’ arrest in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 6

The Federation of Nepali Journalists Kathmandu Chapter has condemned the police arrest of the Chapter secretary Mohan Prasad Panta and central council member Mandhoj Lama.

A team of the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested them on Sunday. FNJ Kathmandu Chapter stated that Panta, who is also the programme presenter of TV Today, and Lama, the editor of sanjalkhabar.com, were taken into control by the CIB team and were kept at the CIB’s office at Maharajgunj for some hours, without valid reason.

An emergency meeting of FNJ Kathmandu Chapter office-bearers and members presided over by the Chapter President Santaram Bidari has also flayed the arrest and demanded an investigation into the arrest of the journalists.

The meeting also decided to draw the attention of the government towards putting a stop to the infringement on press freedom.
