Former generals hope for political resolution of Tarai turmoil, but alert army to be ready for mobilisation

KATHMANDU: Former chiefs and high officials of the Nepal Army said the ongoing Tarai-Madhes tension is political in nature and should be resolved politically.

They, however, suggested the national army to stay prepared for mobilisation to protect Nepal's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, self-dependence and national unity.

The former generals expressed their opinions about the current crisis at an interaction at the NA headquarters in Kathmandu today.

The NA had organised the interaction to receive feedback from its former officials in connection to the country's contemporary scenario.

According to the NA Directorate of Public Relations, the former generals said the army should protect people's lives and property adhering to the constitutional system and process, and in line with the prevailing situation as well as necessity.

On the occasion, they also discussed army's present condition, future course of action and subjects related to the national army, according to the NA DPR statement.

The former officials also discussed ground level realities, commands and instructions, NA's future policies and plans, welfare programmes and other contemporary issues.

NA believed that the creative acknowledgements, advises and suggestions coming from the former army chiefs and generals – who have worked in the organisation for long – would help to further strengthen and enhance the capability of the NA, it is stated.
