Freshly appointed Attorney General resigns from UML politburo

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Attorney General Agni Kharel has submitted his resignation from his responsibility as a CPN-UML politburo member, today.

With the acceptance of his resignation, Kharel will be relieved from all duties as the central committee member of the party and will take on an independent role as the Attorney General of Nepal.

In his resignation letter, Kharel has mentioned that he is forwarding his resignation to fully assume the important constitutional duties of an Attorney General.

Kharel's appointment came at crucial juncture in Nepal's Judiciary.

Earlier on Tuesday:

President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed former Minister and CPN-UML leader Agni Kharel as the Attorney General on recommendation of the government.

President Bhandari appointed senior advocate Kharel as per Article 157 (2) of the Constitution.

Erstwhile Attorney General Basanta Ram Bhandari resigned from his post after Oli assumed office on February 15.
