Friday morning coldest in Kathmandu Valley as mercury plummets to 2°C

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley endured its coldest morning of this winter so far with temperature plummeting to 2°C at 3 am on Friday, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The maximum temperature recorded in the afternoon, however, was 16.8°C.

With the official onset of winter in mid-November, mercury has gradually dropped. The warmest winter day was November 23 with minimum and maximum temperatures 10.6°C and 23.9°C respectively.

The MFD records show that the average minimum and maximum temperatures for the month of December are 3.7°C and 20.2°C respectively.

The lowest minimum temperature that MFD recorded was on December 31, 1977 with mercury plummeting to -2°C.

Last year, the  minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded to be 2.7°C and 18.2°C respectively.
