Awards given out to journos

Kathmandu, April 26

Journalists from Kantipur Daily and Gorkhapatra were honoured with ‘Gender Responsive Journalism Award’ by Media Advocacy Group and UN Women today.

Nepalgunj Bureau Chief of Kantipur Daily, Janak Nepal, was awarded for the best article among 118 articles published in the newspaper from the June 2016 to February 2017. Nepal was commended for his story ‘Aago Sahaneharu’.

Photographer Kabita Thapa of Gorkhapatra was awarded for the best photographer among 85 photos. Photographs of a lady carrying a baby above a cylinder earned her the award.

Speaking at the programme, Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Karki said that for the protection of women’s rights, there must be women’s participation in the technical field. Similarly reminding about the available incentives for female in different institutions, Krishna Hari Baskota, chief information commissioner, said women should be aware of their rights and utilise them to their benefit.

For the distribution of award separate jury members were chosen and Editor of The Himalayan Times Prakash Rimal was also a member of the jury. Rimal informed that the journalists were selected for the award without any bias.
