Govt offices to have Twitter accounts

KATHMANDU: The government, in a bid to implement e-information system, digitalisation and e-governance, is preparing to make it compulsory for all government offices to operate their own Twitter handle.

According to Pradhumna Prasad Upadhyay, chief at Hello Sarkar desk, the move will help government offices disseminate information in an easy and efficient way. He said people could lodge their grievances without having to visit the government offices once their Twitter accounts became operational. Many government offices have been operating their respective Facebook accounts in line with the government’s instruction aimed at easing information exchange.

According to him, work on formulating ‘Work procedures for using Twitter in government agencies’ was in the offing. Upadhyay stated that the work procedure would be passed at the earliest. Upadhyay said the Twitter handle should be attractive and service-seekers-friendly and be operated daily and regularly. He shared that around 10 per cent of the total government agencies were using Twitter.
