Govt forms panel to implement pacts signed with Dr Govinda KC

KATHMANDU: The government on Friday formed a three-member panel to implement agreements signed with the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC.

A Cabinet meeting held today formed the committee headed by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

Dr Shree Krishna Giri and a Joint-Secretary at the High and Technical Education Division of the Ministry of Education are members of the panel.

On January 7, the senior doctor, who had staged 10 fast-unto-deaths over past few years demanding reforms in Nepal's medical education sector, had served a three-week ultimatum to implement the agreements signed with him earlier.

The ultimatum was due to expire on Saturday.

The Cabinet decided to discuss the report of Local Bodies Restructuring Commission at the political level before submitting it to the Cabinet.

Likewise, Prakash Mathema has been promoted to the post of Secretary.

Meanwhile, the meeting decided to merge the NIDC Development Bank with the Rastriya Banijya Bank.

Likewise, it decided that Nepal would host a senior officials' meeting of BIMSTEC member states next month.
