Human trafficking convict held after 15 years

KATHMANDU: A human trafficking convict has been arrested after more than 23 years of crime and 15 years of conviction.

Lwang Lama (43) from Padampokhari-1 of Makawanpur district was convicted of trafficking two carpet factory workers from Kupandol of Lalitpur district to India in August-September 1993.

According to police, total three persons were involved in the act.

The then Patan Appellate Court on October 3, 2001 had convicted him of the crime and sent him to jail for five years.

He, however, was absconding till a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police held him from Padampokhari of Makawanpur district recently.

Meanwhile, police presented him before execution of the verdict at the Makawanpur District Court, which ordered that Lama be sent to the Bhimphedi Jail in the district.
