India bears no malice towards Nepal, says Rae

Kathmandu, February 23

Ambassador of India to Nepal Ranjit Rae said India was doing everything in Nepal with good intention and without any malice towards Nepal.

Addressing a farewell programme organised by Gajendra Narayan Singh Lok Kalyankari Pratishthan here today, Ambassador Rae said those who accused India of micro-managing Nepal or interfering in Nepal’s domestic affairs did not know Nepal-India relations well.

“India wants Nepal to march fast on the path of development. India wants to strengthen all aspects of bilateral relations,” he added

India, he argued, succeeded in some endeavours but failed in others. “India shares very good relations with Nepal but things should not be taken for granted and there should be no complacency in efforts to strengthen our bilateral relations,” he said.

The ambassador said if Nepal achieved economic prosperity many of its political problems would automatically be resolved.  He hoped Nepal would be able to solve current political problems and resolution of current issues would help the country achieve goals of stability and development.

Ambassador Rae said both countries should make efforts to achieve the goals of development through cooperation for which there needed to be peace and stability. “There should be peace and stability in the country and the neighbourhood. International situation should also contribute to these causes,” he added.

India is a hugely diverse country but its diversity has been strengthening the unity of the country, Rae said. When a country moves ahead with this feeling then there is stability and this challenge can be tackled only in democracy, Rae argued.

“When one section feels isolated, then there cannot be stability and this is India’s main objective in Nepal,” Rae said.

GNSLKP Chair Rajendra Mahato said Rae’s tenure in Nepal was successful as many things that had not happened for long materialised during his tenure.

Mahato said constitution should be amended to address the demands of agitating forces and only then would all sections of society own up the constitution. Rae will return to New Delhi in a few days after completing his tenure in Nepal.
