Indian envoy congratulates PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae on Thursday congratulated CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on being elected as the Prime Minister.

In response, Dahal welcomed and thanked the Indian envoy.

The Indian Ambassador turned up at Dahal's residence in Lazimpat this morning to congratulate him.

Earlier on Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had telephoned Dahal and congratulated him on being elected as the Prime Minister.

Dahal was elected the 39th Prime Minister, securing overwhelming majority at the Legislature-Parliament, on Wednesday.

He had also served as the Prime Minister from August 2008 to May 2009.

His swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for 3 pm today.

Meanwhile, Norway also congratulated Dahal on being elected as the Prime Minister.

"Norway encourages the new leadership to ensure a peaceful and continuous implementation of the Constitution and emphasises the importance of the much needed reconstruction efforts," the Royal Norwegian Embassy here stated in a press release today.
