Pokharel accuses ruling parties of heading to partyless rule

CHITWAN: CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel commented that the ruling parties were trying to invite a partyless system in the nation again.

Speaking at a press meet in Bharatpur of Chitwan district today, one of the key leaders of the main opposition said the parties in the government were trying to delay polls and creating constitutional and legal void, thereby inviting the partyless government as the one led by the then Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi in 2013.

Pokharel, meanwhile, stressed that the government should conduct elections at local, provincial and federal levels anyway by January 2018 so as to avoid any untoward political crisis.

"The parties should not render the Constitution ineffective," he said, "We cannot even imagine what it would lead us to."

The opposition leader said the government had not yet floated any concrete proposal for the Constitution amendment.

The UML would form its official opinion about the proposal only after studying the proposal, he said.
