Japanese envoy calls on Speaker Gharti

KATHMANDU: Japanese Ambassador to NepalĀ  Masashi Ogawa held a meeting with Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar at the latter's office in Singha Durbar on Friday.

The Ambassador, on the occasion, extended his congratulations and best wishes to Gharti for being elected as the first female Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament of Nepal.

He even welcomed the new Constitution of Nepal, promulgated through more than 90 per cent of consensus, read a press release issued by the Speaker's Secretariat.

During the meeting, he assured that the Japanese government is committed for continual support for the reconstruction and reestablishment of infrastructures hit by the April 25 earthquake, stated the statement.

He even expressed his concern regarding the ongoing discussion over the National Reconstruction Authority Bill in the Parliament.

Gharti, in response, thanked and praised the Japanese government for its assistance during the earthquake and contribution to overall development of Nepal.

She expressed that the Nepal-Japan friendship will continue in cordial and cooperative fashion in the future, the statement added.

High officials including Legislature-Parliament Secretariat's Secretary General Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, Secretary Mukunda Sharma and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present at the meeting.
