Joining govt would be suicidal, says Yadav

Kathmandu, July 20

The Federal Alliance has decided not to join the new government although it has said that it would vote in favour of the no-confidence motion registered at the Parliament against Prime Minister KP Oli.

Coordinator of the alliance Upendra Yadav said the alliance would not join the government until the issues of the exploitation, oppression and discrimination of Madhesis and Janajatis were addressed. “It would be suicidal to join the government without having the issues that we raised addressed,” he said at an interaction organised by the alliance today.

Leader Yadav also said that they would continue their agitation until the constitution was rewritten.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress central member Pradip Giri said the non-violent agitation of the alliance had achieved success and added that such an agitation would produce a lasting outcome.

Speaking at the programme, intellectuals and civil society leaders suggested to the alliance leaders not to abandon their agenda to join the government.

Political analysts Krishna Hachethu and Tula Narayan Sah, former ambassador Bijaya Kant Karna, former chief election commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel, advocate Surendra Mahato and litterateur Dhirendra Premarsi said it would be appropriate for the alliance to join the government only after a public commitment is made to address the alliance’s demands.
