Journo Gyawali receives threat

KATHMANDU: Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON) has condemned the incident that happened with Nagarik Business Bureau chief Bal Krishna Gyawali on Thursday on the issue of a news article related to the anomalies of the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) Director General Bharat Raj Subedi, which was published in Thursday’s issue of Nagarik. Gyawali’s life was threatened by an unidentified person (male) over telephone. The person had taken the reference of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) saying that he was close to the anti-graft watchdog body. Issuing a press statement on Friday, SEJON has urged the government to investigate and take strong-action against the person who threatened Gyawali.

Swiss foundation day

KATHMANDU: President Ram Baran Yadav has congratulated his Swiss counterpart Simonetta Sommaruga on the occasion of the founding day of the Swiss confederation. In a message of best wishes on Friday, the president has wished for personal health and happiness of his Swiss counterpart and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Switzerland. Similarly, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has extended sincere congratulations to the Swiss president on the same occasion. In a message of best wishes sent today, the PM wished for good health and happiness of the Swiss president and for progress and prosperity of the people there. He expressed his confidence that the friendly relations existing between the two countries would grow further in the years ahead.

Four held with drugs

LALITPUR: Police said they arrested four people while consuming and trading in illegal drugs, on Tuesday from Bagalamukhi of Lalitpur. Aman Maharjan, 22, Laxman Tandukar, 41, Manish Tandukar, 23, from Bagalamukhi  and Yogeshwori Joshi, 31, of Kathmandu were caught red-handed from Maharjan’s residence. Controlled drugs including 52 ampoules diazepam, 61 ampoules nuphorin, 21 ampoules phenergan, three ampoules avil and six ampoules stagan were confiscated from the scene.
