DFO steps in to stop misuse of aggregates

Kathmandu, August 22

Kathmandu District Forest Office has stepped in to stop misuse of aggregates extracted during construction of the Chisapani stretch of Chitlang-Thankot road.

According to Kathmandu DFO Office, it stopped misuse of aggregates by inviting bids for their sale.

Meanwhile, Chandragiri Municipality has written to the DFO to remove aggregates from the area. District Forest Officer Indra Prasad Sapkota said it had received letter from Chandragiri Municipality asking it to remove the aggregates piled up in the area.

“The DFO is under pressure, but it is committed to enforcing the law,” Sapkota told The Himalayan Times.

As per the law, Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and its subordinate bodies are responsible for conservation, management and use of forest resources. “Bidding process has already begun so the aggregates piled up in the area would be removed soon,” Sapkota added.
