Lack of clear guidelines affects education sector

Kathmandu, September 23

Educational programmes across the country have been facing setbacks due to lack of coordination between local levels and educational institutions.

Education sector programmes in local levels have yet to make headway while management of education office staff in local bodies and clear policy to operate programmes is awaited.

Speaking at a discussion programme ‘Education Management in Local Level’ organised today, member of High Level Education Commission Bidhya Nath Koirala said there should be proper coordination among local level staffers and educational agencies.

At the programme, Pralad Aryal, education officer at Kathmandu Metropolitan City, said there was a problem in managing local levels educational programmes. “The local bodies lack clear rules and regulations to begin their task,” said Aryal.

Similarly, Deputy Controller Gehendra Nath Gautam, Office of the Controller of Examinations, said they were ready to work in local levels. “If the government clearly provides guidelines for local levels and educational agencies, we are ready to start our work in local levels,” he added.

“Due to the lack of clear policies, we are confused whether to operate educational activities through District Education Office or the metropolitan office,” said Hari Aryal, education officer at Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
