Madhes-Pahad link must for nationalism, says Ram Baran Yadav

KATHMANDU: Former President Ram Baran Yadav said the state must be able to link the Madhes (plains) and the Pahad (hills) to promote the feeling of nationalism among people.

Speaking at a book launch programme in Naya Baneshwor of Kathmandu today, Yadav said the Constitution should address concerns of all regions of the nation.

The first President of the Republic Nepal was of the view that the Constitution promulgated in September last year was not able to incorporate legitimate demands raised by various Madhes-based parties.

On the occasion, Yadav had launched the book 'Pahilo Samsad: BP-Mahendra Takarav' (The First Parliament: BP-Mahendra Confrontation), written by journalist Jagat Nepal.

Speaking at the same function, former Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang, however, defended the Constitution. It could be further amended to introduce timely changes, he added.

Another former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana and political analyst Lok Raj Baral had also spoken at the function.
