Man held for foreign employment fraud

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man on the charge of swindling various people with promises of foreign employment, from Imadol of Lalitpur on Wednesday.

A special team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested Nirmal Shrestha (56) of Budhanilakanta-2, Kathmandu from his current residence in Kharibot of Imadol.

Aandhung Sherpa, one of the victims, had lodged a complaint against him after his visa provided by Shrestha was proved to be fake by the South Korea Immigration recently. He was deported to Nepal by the Korean government.

According to Sherpa, a permanent resident of Gudel-4 of Solukhumbu, the alleged fraud had collected around Rs 1.84 million from him, saying that he could assure him a job with a monthly salary of NRs100,000 in Korea.

Like Sherpa, many others might have been swindled by Shrestha, police suspected.

Meanwhile, police handed the suspect over to the Department of Foreign Employment for further investigation and action.
