Man swindles 4 foreign employment aspirants of Rs 5.4 million

KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly swindled 4 foreign employment aspirants of Rs 5.4 million promising them of lucrative jobs.

Lhakpa Themba Sherpa (37), a permanent resident of Bakachok-3 of Khotang, currently residing in Boudha of Kathmandu, was arrested from Tinchuli of Boudha by a team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division yesterday.

According to police, Sherpa had swindled Rs. 1.15 million from each of the four work aspirants initially, and had sent them to Japan on tourist visas.

He, along with his agent in Japan, identified as Narbu Chiring Gurung had swindled each of them of another Rs 200,000.

They had assured the victims that they would be taken to Korea through Japan, but were made to stay in Japan till their visa expired.

According to the victims, they were then arrested at the immigration check point in Japan. It has been learnt that the victims were jailed for nine months before returning to Nepal.

After the victims had lodged complaint against the suspect, the MCD had swung into the action against him.

It has been further learnt that Sherpa owns the Royal Stars Travels Pvt. Ltd.

Meanwhile, Sherpa has been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment for further investigation.
