Manohara River Cleaning Campaign kicks off

BHAKTAPUR: The Manohara River, which has turned into a trash dumping site lately and has been bearing the brunt of wanton encroachment by human, would be cleaned on a weekly basis every Saturday to help it regain its chastity.

A civic drive named Manohara River Cleaning and Conservation Campaign was launched on Saturday in Manohara River and would be carried on every Saturday from 6:30 am to 9:00 am for next 52 consecutive weeks.

According to Campaign Coordinator Rudra Bhattarai, the River would be cleaned in every stretch of it from Shalinadi to Jatibudi in Bhaktapur.

Around four metric tonnes of wastage were scooped from the River on the first day of the cleaning campaign, according to Coordinator Bhattarai.

The High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation, Kageshwori Municipality, Bhaktapur District Coordination Committee and Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32 among others would be joining this newly launched Campaign.
